Maintenance and Inspection Checklist - YY1

Regular maintenance helps prevent mis-picks, placement errors, and unexpected errors. During operation, the user should consistently monitor the machine and ensure it is functioning properly.

If you notice abnormal sounds, movement, or any malfunctioning parts, stop operation immediately and perform the inspections below or contact Neoden USA for technical support.

This article is intended for users working with the Neoden YY1 Pick and Place Machine.

Daily Inspection: A Checklist for Success

Before Power On

Before running a job, confirm the following conditions and perform quick visual checks.

  1. Environment
    1. Temperature: 20°C–26°C
    2. Humidity: 45%–70%
    3. Airflow: Clear air, no strong airflow directed at the machine
  2. Feeders
    1. Confirm proper tape advancement
    2. Ensure feeders are free of obstructions
    3. Remove any visible tape debris from the feeder area
  3. Nozzles
    1. Check for dirt, damage, or distortion
    2. Clean or replace if needed
  4. Machine and Work Area
    1. Ensure the placement area is clear of clutter
    2. Confirm camera lenses are clean and free of spots
    3. Verify there are no obstructions around the head and nozzles

After Power On

After powering on, use these checks to confirm the machine is ready to run.

  1. Confirm Basic Startup Status
    1. Ensure the monitor displays normally
    2. Confirm the Emergency Stop button functions properly
  2. Nozzle Inspection and Movement Check
    1. Nozzles should be straight and level
    2. Test each nozzle head’s movement beyond the normal range:
      1. Use your finger to gently push the nozzle
      2. Movement should feel smooth, not sticky or rough
  3. Air Supply
    1. Confirm the air connector and hose are secure
    2. Check that air pressure is within your required operating range
    3. Listen for obvious abnormal sounds before startup
  4. Head Movement and Initialization Check
    1. Verify the mounting head can:
      1. Rotate smoothly
      2. Move up and down smoothly
    2. Confirm the head performs the normal initialization process and returns to home
    3. Listen for abnormal noises during movement (grinding, clicking, dragging, or repeated impacts)

Operator Monitoring During Operation

Use these checks while the machine is running to catch issues early.

  1. Watch for Abnormal Behavior

Stop operation if you notice:

    1. Cover tape peeling does not look correct or tape is not moving consistently
    2. Tape breaks or tears
    3. Placement position is incorrect or drifting over time
    4. Any unexpected head motion (jerking, hesitation, misalignment

  1. Listen for Abnormal Sounds

Stop operation if you hear:

    1. Unusual sounds from the placement head
    2. Repeated “miss” sounds indicating missing components or failed pickup
    3. Abnormal sounds from feeder advancement
    4. Clicking, grinding, scraping, or repeated knocking

  1. Take Immediate Action When Safe
    1. Stop the machine and correct simple, safe issues (minor tape interruption, visible debris, re-checking feeder/tape routing).
    2. If you suspect a mechanical or electrical issue, do not attempt repairs—contact technical support.

Perform these checks after longterm use every few months (or more often in dusty environments or high usage).

  1. Nozzles
    1. Clean nozzles thoroughly and inspect tips for wear or damage
    2. If pickup failures increase, swap to a known-good nozzle to isolate the issue
  2. Work Area and Vision
    1. Clean camera lenses and nearby surfaces more thoroughly
    2. Remove dust buildup around the placement area and head path
  3. Feeders
    1. Inspect feeder loading path for wear, debris, or tape fragments
    2. Confirm smooth, consistent advancement
  4. Machine Condition
    1. Inspect for dust buildup in areas near motion components (visible rails/guides) and clean reachable surfaces carefully
    2. Check for recurring abnormal noises during homing/initialization that may indicate developing wear

When to Stop and Troubleshoot

Stop operation immediately if you observe any of the following:

  • Abnormal movement (jerky motion, binding, hesitation, drifting)
  • Abnormal sounds (grinding, repeated knocking, air leaks)
  • Nozzles that appear bent, crooked, or do not return smoothly
  • Feeder advancement issues (tape not indexing, tape snagging, inconsistent feed)
  • Camera view issues (spots, blur, poor contrast)

If the issue persists after re-checking your setup, contact technical support with:

  • A short description of what you observed
  • When it happens (startup, homing, during placement, during feeder indexing)
  • Photos/video of the issue if possible

Service Note

If lubrication or internal adjustments are required, follow the YY1 manual guidance or contact technical support for the correct procedure.
