What is the difference between the comment or component box on the edit components page?
The Comment and Component boxes on the Edit Components page serve the same purposes in managing and identifying components within a project, but can be used in different ways. The Comment Box is used to manage and apply settings to all components of a similar type, providing a high-level overview. The Component Box provides detailed control over each individual component, allowing for precise configuration.
- Component Box: This box lists every individual component on your PCB, detailing every single type of component. If your board has 25 components, the Component box will display them as a numbered list from 1 to 25. This box is used to input or adjust the data for each specific component on the board, even if multiple components are of the same unique type. This view allows you to customize settings for each individual component.
- Comment Box: This box lists different types of components in your working file, grouped by their footprint and a descriptive comment label. It displays only the first component of each type, making it easier to see the variety of components without listing every single one. For example, if your design includes 7 different or unique types of components totaling 25 individual parts (e.g., 3 resistor types, 2 capacitor types, 1 LED type, and 1 chip type), the Comment box would show each type once. You can use the Comment box to navigate through different component types and apply settings to all same unique component types by using the “Apply All Same Components” button, which copies the values entered to all components of the same unique type.
