How to Set Up the Nozzle Library on the ND10P
Before programming your project file, you need to load your nozzles into the machine and configure the Nozzle Library. The Nozzle Library tells the machine which nozzles are loaded and where, so it can manage automatic nozzle exchanges during production.
Checklist for Success
Before you begin, confirm the following:
- Correct nozzle style. The N10P requires "P" style nozzles and is also compatible with the YX-nozzles. Contact our team or visit neodenusa.com if you are unsure which nozzles to order.
- Correct nozzle size. The inner diameter of your nozzle should be slightly smaller than the component surface area it needs to pick for proper grip and adhesion. For example, an 0805 component (2.0mm x 1.25mm) works well with a CN065 nozzle (0.65mm inner diameter). See: What nozzle size should I use for different components? for a full reference.
- Slot compatibility. The exchange station has 39 slots. Slots 1-27 accept smaller nozzles (CN020-P to CN400-P). Slots 28-38 accept medium nozzles (CN400-P to CN750-P), except Slot 33, which is specifically reserved for the calibration nozzle. Slot 39 accepts one large nozzle (CN1100-P). Confirm that each nozzle you plan to load is physically compatible with its intended slot before you begin.
- All nozzles gathered. Collect every nozzle you will need for your project before starting. All nozzles must be loaded into the nozzle exchange station before you complete machine setup and run Auto Program.
Steps for Success
Complete the following steps in order.
- Open the Nozzle Library
- Navigate to the Application page and click "Nozzle Library." A window will open showing all 39 nozzle slots in the exchange station and all eight slots on the placement head. Click "Unlock" to open the slots on the exchange station so they are ready to receive nozzles.
- Load Nozzles into the Exchange Station
- Manually place each nozzle into its numbered slot in the exchange station. As you load each nozzle, right-click the corresponding slot field in the Nozzle Library screen to record its type by model number. Once all nozzles are loaded and recorded, click "Lock."
- At this stage, you do not need to determine the final nozzle order for your project. Once you have completed your full machine setup and run the Auto Program process, the machine will calculate and display the optimal nozzle order based on your project file.
Loading and Unloading Nozzles
During production, the machine will automatically load and exchange nozzles as needed, so you do not need to manually load them onto the placement head, unless you are working with custom nozzles. Always update the Nozzle Library any time you manually add or remove nozzles.
Keep the following in mind:
- The machine retains a memory of which nozzles are in specific slots throughout programming and production. If you have placed a new nozzle into a slot that was previously assigned to a different nozzle, update that slot in the Nozzle Library to reflect the change.
- If you want to load or unload all nozzles before starting, use the "Head Config" button to set the occupied slots accordingly.
Auto Program
If you have already completed the Auto Program process prior to setting up your Nozzle Library, review the nozzle assignments within the Place Sequence page to confirm it is accurate and logical for your setup. Proceed to Step 4: Verify the Setup.
If you still need to perform the Auto Program process, follow the steps below.
- Run Auto Program and Review Nozzle Assignments
- Navigate back to the File List page, select your project file, and click "Edit." Once your full machine setup is complete and all necessary information has been filled out, go to the Component page and select "Auto Program."
- In the "Nozzle Usage Setting" pop-up, review the nozzle type assignments for each slot on the placement head. Typically, all nozzle types can be used in any slot on the placement head. However, if you are using custom nozzles, you will need to uncheck any nozzle types that should not be used for the placement head slots reserved for the custom nozzles. Click "OK" to run the process.
- When Auto Program completes, a "Program Result" window will display the Nozzle Distribution, Feeder Distribution, and Place Sequence. Review each assignment carefully to confirm it is accurate and logical for your setup. When satisfied, click "OK."
- Verify the Setup and Finalize Programming
- Before moving on, confirm that the nozzles set up to be physically loaded on the placement head and in the exchange station match exactly what is recorded in the Nozzle Library. If the physical nozzles and the software do not match, the placement head will collide with the nozzle bank during an automatic exchange or the component pickup process will fail due to incorrect nozzle use.
- Any time you manually add or remove a nozzle, before or during production, update the Nozzle Library to reflect the change.
- The Nozzle Library is now set up and you are ready to move on to the next steps in the N10P machine set up process. Refer to the N10P Quick Start Guide for more information.
If you need to adjust the nozzle order after Auto Program, click the "Nozzle Distribution" cell for the relevant component, select the correct nozzle from the drop-down, click "Apply," then click "OK." You can also reorder the component placement sequence using the "Move Up" and "Move Down" buttons, or disable a component from being placed by unchecking its "Place" checkbox.
If Auto Program assigns a feeder to a position that is not compatible with your project setup, refer to the Feeder Information section of the N10P Quick Start Guide (Section 2.5) for instructions on correcting feeder position before re-running Auto Program.
Using YX Series Nozzles?
The N10P is compatible with YX series nozzles, but they require a slightly different setup process. See: Using YX Series Nozzles with the N10P for full instructions.
